Song Bird
My work for this project was inspired by music and protest, with particular focus on 1960s America, the Civil Rights Movement and Woodstock. The photos below were shot in Brick Lane, London.
Gloves
My designs for this project were inspired by Dam Van Huynh and the ideology behind his choreography in his dance 'Gloves'. His choreography stems from the body and what is encrypted inside of it. This viewpoint lead me to consider the importance of the body in my designs, drawing from the work of artists including Heather Hansen, Egon Schiele and Adara Sánchez Anguiano.
Firecracker
Firecracker follows the deterioration of demolition engineer Simon as a string of events leads to him blowing up a car tow park. Set in Buenos Aires, my research mainly focused on understanding the area and the world he would inhabit. All designs are a culmination of found garments and photographs photoshopped together to create the final result.
The Only Way is Earnest
For this final project I wanted the challenge of modernising the classic text ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’. With it’s themes of fake news, bunburying and pretending to be someone else for personal gain, I thought the text drew parallels with the modern culture of reality television. My sets are designed to look like a TV set and the characters to look like reality television stars.
